Licensed Acupuncturist
California has one of the most rigorous requirements for licensed acupuncturists including: 3,375 hours of training (including a year as an intern on and off campus) and a 5 hour examination called (CALE) California Acupuncture Licensing Examination. Upon completion California Department of Consumer Affairs gives the designation of License Acupuncturist (Lac.). If you are receiving acupuncture, please make sure they are licensed properly.
Diplomate of Herbal Medicine
A Diplomate of Herbal Medicine is a practitioner who is certified by the National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM®) and has met the certification requirements for both acupuncture and Chinese herbology. It is a considerable professional achievement to earn the designation Diplomate of Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM). NCBAHM certification indicates to employers, patients, and peers that one has met national standards for the safe and competent practice of acupuncture and Chinese herbology as defined by the acupuncture and herbal medicine (AHM) profession.
